Annual Bull Sale Dec 3, 2009

Inclement Weather Date: December 7, 2009

Haglund Ranch is based 12 miles west of Brockway MT, where L.J. Haglund homesteaded in 1913.  Three generations of Haglunds have run a number of different breeds and types of cattle over the years and in 1973 Gelbvieh cattle were introduced. Finally, a beef animal that could produce economically and function in sync with wide swings in weather.

The hard work and foresight of Phil Haglund, Jr and his wife Dolorie built Haglund Ranch to what it is today: a Gelbvieh herd with genetics that are proven with 30 years of performance testing and 20 years of Carcass data from the Great Western Beef Expo. As Phil and Dolorie neared retirement age, their daughters had all grown up, moved away, and were involved in their own businesses. It was important to Phil that the family ranch continue and he began his search for a young couple he could mentor to take over.

In 2007, Ron and Diann Gardner and their son, Jim Priest, sold their ranch south of Buffalo, WY. They say ranches have to grow to survive, and they had reached that point. With sky-rocketing land prices around the Big Horn Mountains, they could not buy more land there and expect a cow to pay for it. Jim and his wife, Genny, began the search for a place to relocate the Black Angus herd and raise their family.

Haglund Ranch had found its new partners.

The Haglund Ranch purpose has always been to raise a beef animal that will produce at a profit from birth to carcass. Our cattle are selected with calving ease as a critical area of concern.  At Haglund Ranch, we believe high performance and calving ease can both be achieved, without sacrificing one for the other.

A moderate-framed cow of medium size is a must for our environment.  Experience has shown that a moderate-sized cow can maintain herself adequately without excessive maintenance, breed back on schedule and wean off, as a minimum, at least 50 percent of her body weight.  A moderate-sized cow has also shown us longevity, maternal strength, and an ability to remain sound in the udder, feet and legs.  Efficient cows produce efficient offspring.

The Haglund Ranch philosophy puts customer satisfaction first. To obtain and maintain a satisfied customer, we unconditionally guarantee our bulls. If any Haglund bull should experience a genetic problem,, such as fertility, breeding ability, soundness, disposition, or any other negative trait that keep it from being a totally effective breeder, it is unconditionally guaranteed.
